To support our continued growth, we are looking for a motivated Process Engineer who wants to help build sustainable solutions for tomorrow.

Terra Mater, founded in 2020 and based in Ghent, is an innovative chemical company focused on upgrading lower alcohols into higher alcohols and producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). With our cutting-edge technologies, we develop bio-based alternatives to fossil resources and contribute to a more circular and climate-friendly industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Process design and engineering

  • Contribute to the design of process units for chemical, petrochemical, and pilot-scale applications
  • Develop, evaluate, approve, and implement process flow diagrams and heat & material balances
  • Review and approve datasheets for process equipment
  • Define specifications and operating parameters for process, piping, and instrumentation equipment
  • Structure and calculate data for the development of P&IDs
  • Actively participate in the development of control narratives and cause & effect diagrams
  • Develop, validate, and implement simulation models for process units

Technical calculations and process safety

  • Perform hydraulic calculations for liquid and vapor circuits
  • Create sizing calculations for pressure-relief systems
  • Develop life cycle analyses (LCAs) and conduct sensitivity studies

Pilot unit & lab activities

  • Operate and optimize the pilot unit, including drafting performance reports and proposing process improvements
  • Design and implement lab-scale analytical tests to support pilot unit performanceMaintain laboratory equipment, including GC-MS, ICP, and others

Project follow-up and collaboration

  • Contribute to project planning, budgeting, and progress tracking
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with project team members and management

Your profile:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering; knowledge of biochemical processes is a strong asset
  • You have at least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in the (petro)chemical industry
  • You are capable of leading projects with attention to both planning and quality assurance
  • You are a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing, and enjoy working in a team setting
  • You are accurate, results-driven, and take initiative
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English; French is a plus
  • You are proficient in MATLAB, Python, and LaTeX
  • You are familiar with software such as COMSOL, PRO-II, ASPEN/ASPEN PLUS, and Office (ECDL Full Standard certification)
