Ghent Transport & Storage is a family-owned company located in the Port of Ghent. We specialize in the handling and storage of both liquid bulk goods (such as liquid fertilizers and petroleum products including gasoline, (bio)diesel, gas oil, and kerosene) and dry bulk goods (fertilizers, grains, wood pellets, and rapeseed). As a maintenance assistant, you are responsible for the daily maintenance and proper functioning of our extensive fleet of machinery. You will primarily work on mechanical systems, ensuring that our wheel loaders, skid steer loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and other machinery remain safe, reliable, and fully operational.
Tasks and Responsibilities:

You are responsible for the daily maintenance of our fleet of mobile equipment.

You carry out preventive maintenance on wheel loaders, skid steer loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and other machinery.

You perform mechanical maintenance tasks such as lubrication, replacing wear parts, checking moving components, and carrying out minor repairs.

You diagnose mechanical defects and malfunctions and carry out the necessary repairs.

You regularly inspect the technical condition of our machinery and promptly report any signs of wear, defects, or other issues requiring attention.

You ensure that machines are safe and ready for use after maintenance or repairs.

When required, you assist with the maintenance of other technical installations and infrastructure at our terminals.

You identify more complex technical or electrical issues and, where necessary, involve the maintenance technician or external technical support.

You keep maintenance records up to date, including completing checklists and registering work carried out.

You maintain a clean and safe working environment.

You occasionally carry out minor cleaning tasks.You will work at two different terminals in the Port of Ghent, making your job varied and dynamic.
Your Profile:
- You have a technical or mechanical background, or equivalent experience.
- You have a strong interest in, and preferably experience with, the maintenance of mobile equipment and machinery.
- You have a solid basic knowledge of mechanics and good technical insight.
- Experience with wheel loaders, skid steer loaders, excavators, bulldozers, or similar machinery is a plus.
- You work safely and carefully, with a strong focus on quality.
- You are able to work independently and have good logical thinking and a strong sense of responsibility.
- You have a hands-on mentality and are not afraid to get stuck in.
- You take initiative and are not afraid to tackle problems yourself.
- You enjoy working with colleagues and have a strong team spirit.
- You are flexible and open to a broad and varied range of tasks.
