Ghent Transport & Storage is a family-owned company located in the Port of Ghent. We specialize in the handling and storage of both liquid bulk goods (such as liquid fertilizers and petroleum products including gasoline, (bio)diesel, gas oil, and kerosene) and dry bulk goods (fertilizers, grains, wood pellets, and rapeseed). With our professional team and state-of-the-art equipment, we ensure that all goods are handled quickly, safely, and efficiently.
As a Technical Teamleader, you are, together with your colleagues, responsible for the smooth execution of operational activities at the dry bulk terminal. You are a key figure on the quay, combining the supervision of dock workers with technical and operational tasks and responsibilities.
Tasks and responsibilities:

You coordinate the loading and unloading operations of seagoing vessels and barges in consultation with all involved parties

You lead a team of dock workers and ensure clear instructions and the right resources so they can perform their work efficiently

You monitor the progress of operations and intervene where necessary to guarantee a smooth and efficient workflow

You are the first point of contact for technical issues and aim to resolve them safely

You prepare setups (mobile conveyor belts) and ensure the deployment of the necessary rolling equipment (wheel loaders, cranes, skid-steer loaders, etc.)

You ensure safety, sustainability, order, and cleanliness on the terminal

You maintain smooth communication with the Operations Manager, planning, ship crews, and fellow team leaders to ensure continuity of operations

You share responsibility for the preventive and corrective maintenance of quay equipment and buildings
Your profile:

You have experience in or a solid knowledge of electricity and/or mechanics. Experience in the maritime sector is a plus

You have experience in leading people (experience with dock workers is a plus)

You have a flexible personality and are open to a broad range of tasks

You are not afraid of physical activities and manual work

You are willing to work in a two-shift system: alternating early and late shifts

During busy periods or when unloading certain seagoing vessels, weekend work is also expected, in consultation with colleagues

You are proactive and take initiative

You have a strong sense of safety and quality

You are able to work independently and are stress-resistant
